The 10th Asean-Japan Counter-Terrorism Dialogue was held on February 27th and 28th in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Dialogue was chaired by the Embassy of Japan in Kuala Lumpur together with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Malaysia. The Dialogue follows the agreement at the ASEAN-Japan Summit Meeting held in December 2015. It was a forum to exchange views on the current affairs related to terrorism. Under past Dialogues various projects contributed to the region-wide counter-terrorism measures that have been implemented through the funding provided by the Japan-ASEAN Integration Fund (JAIF).

The Milipol Asia-Pacific in Singapore took place from the 4th to 6th April 2017, with the IACSP being a major supporting organization to Milipol Asia 2017. The conference was devoted to homeland security and showcased solutions to counter the current terrorist threat. An exhibition in line with the conference focused on asymmetric warfare with over 270 exhibitors globally.

The Chongqing Academy of Social Sciences-Center for Religion and International Relations of China invited the IACSP to look into areas of corporation. Andrin Raj was invited by the Academy for a week long engagement on terrorist threats to Chinese organization in the Southeast Asia region. This was in-line with China’s “One Belt One Road” initiatives which included security as part of the economic platform initiative.

Andrin Raj, SEA Regional Director for the IACSP was invited by MARSEC COE of Turkey with the invitation extended by the Defence Attaché’s office at the Embassy of Turkey in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The training involved Naval and MMEA personnel from Malaysia to undergo rules of engagement, policies governing on-board search and counter piracy tactical operations. The program was to prepare security forces in addressing, mitigating and operational engagement on board vessels. Within the modules, the ISPS codes and code of conduct were also presented to the local Malaysian security agencies. The program will enhance IACSP’s anti-piracy certification courses being developed for the region.

The Multinational Maritime Security Centres of Excellence (COE), located at Akzas Naval Base in Marmarisl, Turkey is responsible to train and educate military and law enforcement leaders and specialists from NATO member and partner countries on maritime security-related, SOLAS and ISPS-related certification. They also assist in doctrine development, identify lessons learned, improve interoperability and capabilities, and test and validate concepts through experimentation. They offer recognised expertise and experience that is of benefit to the Alliance, and support the transformation of NATO, while avoiding the duplication of assets, resources and capabilities already present within the Alliance.

The Think Tanks Platform of the Member Countries of the OIC was held in Yazd Province, Iran that brought about countries of the Islamic faith to convene in a conference cum dialogue on the evolving threats to the Islamic countries from terrorism to religious tolerance. The event is a yearly event that brings scholars and experts on religion and security to discuss and promote peace and tolerance and against violent religious terrorism.

Andrin Raj, SEA Regional Director for the IACSP Southeast Asia lectured and presented on international cultural awareness for maritime security operations to international maritime naval and coast guard officer from the European, Asian and the Africa’s on security and cultural awareness. The Asian perspective was presented to the international participants in order to accustom their visits to the Asian region. The program consisted of modules ranging from security, cultural, norms and behaviour, religion, ethnicity and code of conduct within the maritime demure.

The Malaysian Institute for Maritime Affairs held the MIMA Maritime Lecture Series at its institute. The talk which focused on the oil and gas industry on maritime threats such as terrorism and piracy was discussed. Andrin Raj presented on the topic of Maritime Threats to the Oil and Gas industry highlighting the threats of terrorism to oil platforms and the vulnerabilities.

The Track 11 of the workshop on security and development was a program coordinated by the Ministry of Defence, Malaysian Institute of Defence and Security and the National Defence University of Malaysia. The workshop was the second track that took off after Thailand. Participants were from the ASEAN’s security institutions on defence and security. The workshop is a platform for the ASEAN nations in creating an engaging within the global implications of national security threats in the ASEAN region.

The IACSP participated in the GPEC Asia 2013 exhibition and conference in Putrajaya, Malaysia from the 2nd to the 4th of October. The IACSP had a booth together with the Defence & Security Committee of the EUMCCI where both organizations endorsed the first GPEC Asia 2013 on the international level.
